Workshops on topics of special interest to members of industry will be organised, and hands-on, practical workshops will be included on aspects such as phytoplankton culture and shellfish disease recognition. Suggestions for additional workshops should be indicated on the reply slip.
Although there will be a number of plenary sessions where oral presentations will be permitted, equal emphasis will be placed on poster presentations and delegates are encouraged to present their results in the form of posters. To facilitate this, space will be allocated for the posters to be displayed in the tea / lunch areas and sufficient time will be allocated for poster-viewing sessions. In addition, sessions will be held where sets of posters will be summarised by invited reviewers.
Papers for oral or poster presentation will be selected on the basis of submitted abstracts and preference will be given to papers where new and original material is to be presented. The Organising Committee reserves the right to accept abstracts for a poster presentation where an oral presentation was requested.
In order to facilitate rapid production of the Proceedings, strict time limits will be necessary. The FINAL date for submission of Abstracts will be 31 August 1999. Authors will be informed by 31st October 1999 whether their papers have been accepted for oral or poster presentation, and the FINAL date for submission of the full manuscript will be during the conference on 9th February 2000.
Manuscripts with originals of Figures and Plates must be lodged with the Symposium secretariat, together with two photocopies of text and Figures. A disk version of the manuscript, written in Word 97 or similar programme, must also be submitted. All delegates who pay the full symposium registration fee will receive one copy of the Proceedings.
The symposium registration fee will be similar to that charged at the 3rd International Abalone Symposium and the exact figure will be published in the Second Announcement which will be issued at the end of February 1999. Only those who respond to the 1st Announcement will receive the 2nd Announcement.
