There are just three months to go until the 4th International Abalone Symposium starts in Cape Town and the organisers are putting the finishing touches to the programme. We have received over 100 abstracts (including posters and orals) and have arranged some very useful, interesting and exciting activities - some of which are listed below:
We are in the process of finalising the programme and have replied to authors that have submitted an abstract. There will be inevitable changes to the
The registration deadline is the 30th of November, so please ensure that your registration forms reach us by that date. We will accept fax or e-mail copies of the registration form with copies of your payment details EXCEPT IN THE CASE OF CREDIT CARD payments, where your original signature is required. It is vital that you attach proof of payment to the University of Cape Town (in the form of a bank deposit or an attached cheque). Late payments will incur a late payment penalty (see registration forms).
Apart from the two technical workshops (see registration form) we have arranged three other specialist workshops that will run on Wednesday the 9th of February - details will be announced later. The conference organisers will facilitate these workshops at the symposium. We will provide some information on these, and you may contact the co-ordinators directly if you wish. We will accept registration for these workshops (there is no extra charge) at the registration desk on the 6th and 7th of February. The workshops are:

Fishery-dependent data is used in most assessments but the interpretations of these data are often inappropriate and sometimes ignore the significant understanding that divers have of the populations they are fishing. The workshop is designed to be an industry-driven & oriented discussion but we believe that the topic is general enough to involve participants from all disciplines. The main topics of discussion would include:
